In September 1974, the gym at Alcorn State University was filled with music and movement. Somewhere on the dance floor, Mitchell, Jr. and Betty's eyes connected. It was a simple moment—but it marked the beginning of a love story that would grow for more than five decades.
Betty came to Alcorn from Clarksdale, Mississippi. Mitchell, Jr., from Lorman, Mississippi, found himself on the same campus at the same time. Two different hometowns led them to one unforgettable meeting place.
